This ophthalmic suspension is indicated for the treatment of acute otitis externa in adult and paediatric patients due to susceptible strains of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis.
Ciprofloxacin & Hydrocortisone is a quinolone antibiotic and corticosteroid combination. It works by killing bacteria by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. It also reduces inflammation (redness, swelling, itching).
Adult dose: After Cleansing, 2-4 drops instilled thrice to four times a day and at night or as directed by the physician.Paediatric use: Safety and efficacy of Ciprocort otic suspension have been established in paediatric patients 2 years and older in adequate and well controlled clinical trials.
There are no known drug interactions.
Rare reports of headache, pruritis, migraine, hyperesthesia, paresthesia, fungal dermatitis, cough, rash, urticaria, and alopecia have been reported.
No adequate and well controlled studies have been performed in pregnant women. Caution should be exercised when it is used by pregnant women. It is better not to administer Bactin HC otic suspension during lactation.
As with other antibiotic preparations, use of this product may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organism including fungi. If the infection is not improved after one week of therapy, culture should be obtained to guide future treatment.
Aural steroid & antibiotic combined preparations
Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Shake well before each use. The drug is to be used within 30 days after first opening. The bottle is to be closed strongly immediately after use.
